One of my favorite things to do in Los Angeles is to stroll the Venice Boardwalk. Interesting people, cool vibe, and a ton of outrageous activities sums up this area, and although the boardwalk isn’t known for their food, there are a ton of restaurants to hit when you want to stop strolling and grab a bite. The restaurants on the pier are nothing to travel to, so you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon adorable little Figtree’s Cafe. Although Figtree’s is on the pier, it is located pretty far down the strip so you can enjoy your meal without immersing yourself in the madness…
The salads at Figtree’s are awesome and vey gluten friendly. My two go-to’s are the chopped salad with salmon or shrimp and the Mediterranean chicken salad. The salads are large and filling, and the added protein does the trick to keep you full for the day. The grilled ahi tuna salad is a favorite amongst seafood lovers and the caesar salad with no croutons is great and definitely an ‘ol reliable. Sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas take up much of Figtree’s menu, and unfortunately none of these dishes are gluten free. The tacos, however, are nobread approved and served on corn tortilla shells! If you are in the mood for something a bit nicer than casual beach-fare, the grilled salmon or ahi tuna served with vegetables and brown rice is nobread friendly and a great option. You have the option of lemon butter (GF) and garlic soy sauce (not GF) dressings for your seafood, but I like to ask for mine simply grilled.
Casual, fast, and tasty, Figtree’s Cafe is the perfect place to grab a bite as you go for an afternoon stroll. Filling NOBREAD options and prime outdoor seating has had me back to the restaurant a few times now, and I definitely will be back again soon!
