When entering Homeslice, a big neon sign greets you, “I could give up pizza, but I’m not a quitter”…and they are right! Homeslice’s pizza is so good, you’ll never want to stop eating it! Chicago has been known historically as a deep dish pizza town, but Homeslice’s thin crust, creative pizzas make you rethink that! This place is fun, hip, friendly and not to mention, delicious…
I’ve walked into so many pizza spots only to be told that all I can eat is a salad, but at Homeslice I was told to go with an empty stomach! Almost every pizza can be made gluten-free and I wanted one of everything! After extensive reading and discussing our waiter’s favorites and not-to-be-missed items, we started with the jalapeno homies which packed a perfect punch on a dreary, fall Chicago day. The BBQ dipping sauce was just the right amount of sweet to soften the heat of the peppers. Next up came the spinach salad which was naturally gluten-free! The greens were light and refreshing with grapes and apples tossed in a light vinaigrette. Note – be careful when ordering salads as many have croutons or gluten in the dressing.
The real deal here is the pizza! The gluten-free pizza base was moist and soft, but the crust gave a bit of the wonderful crunch you crave at the end of piece so you know it’s done right. Gluten-free crusts can be ordered on the majority of pizzas as a small for just $3 more. Ordering a small is best so you can try their over 20 different options or create your own with endless toppings, sauces and bases. Just stay away from the ranch as it contains gluten.
After a lot of debate and a thumbs up from the staff, we settled on a classic Cheese, the Smoke Show and the Ava-Lance pies. My first bite was The Smoke Show with blackened chicken, roasted jalapenos, chili flakes and cream cheese and I couldn’t put it down! Next up was the Ava-Lance with artichokes, olives, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic and feta and WOW – what a fantastic combination that I usually have in a salad, but never on (gluten-free) bread. Even the classic cheese was awesome!
Needless to say, Homeslice is a must try for gluten-free pizza. The restaurant is fun, fresh and fabulous! I can’t wait to go back or order from their delivery very, very soon.
