Anyone who knows me knows how much I love brunch. I mean, what’s better than a bunch of girls recapping their nights and gossiping over great food and great drinks? So what makes a great brunch restaurant? A menu where each dish doesn’t revolve around some sort of bread, egg entrees that aren’t just the generic egg white omelette, a fun/interesting scene, and a big enough portion to cure last night’s hangover. Oh yeah, and a complimentary mimosa or cocktail with your meal doesn’t hurt! Take all these elements, add them up, and you get Jane Restaurant in Greenwich Village…
Jane is brought to us by the same group that owns The Smith (another favorite), and the menus are VERY similar. Everything on Jane’s menu looks incredible, and although initially it may seem tough to be gluten free at Jane, most orders with the exception of obvious bread entrees like the french toast and pancakes, can easily be done gluten free. I highly recommend the salmon scramble, eggs florentine nobread, egg white omelette nocheese, egg white fritata, ANY of the benedicts nobread, burger nobread, and roasted chicken salad. Not only is Jane one of the best brunch spots in NYC, but they probably have the best home fries in NYC, so if home fries do not come with your meal, absolutely order some on the side!
At dinner, I recommend the roasted salmon, bronzino, any of the salads, grilled calamari, and steak frites. And whatever you do, indulge in the sides! As I mentioned earlier, Jane Restaurant is owned by the masterminds behind The Smith; same owners = same brussels sprouts. You cannot go to Jane and NOT order the brussels sprouts. Between the brussels sprouts, fried artichokes, rosemary fries, and sauteed spinach side orders, you don’t need to order yourself an entree! WORD TO THE WISE: Anything fried at Jane is subject to cross contamination in the fryers. So ONLY order these favorites if you can handle a little CC!
Great food, great scene, hearty portions, and a nobread friendly menu; it’s no wonder why Jane is one of my go-to restaurants in NYC. Don’t miss out!
