I absolutely love everything about Jeffrey’s Grocery. From its perfect West Village location to its decor and ambiance, Jeffrey’s serves a wide variety of food that suits any occasion. It is the perfect place for your next date, dinner with your parents, or solo-dining experience. I went (solo) to the restaurant for the first time last week and was served the most amazing… and filling… lunch by Chef de Cuisine Ryan Aldrich…
Jeffrey’s Grocery has an extensive list of shellfish platters under the “Oyster Bar” on the menu and these specialties are seen on just about every table in the restaurant…. even at breakfast and brunch! I highly recommend the shrimp and lobster cocktails; the shrimp and lobster are jumbo size and you absolutely get your money’s worth. For my meal, I started with the shrimp and lobster combo and then moved on to the quinoa oatmeal with golden raisins and granola with blueberries and pomegranate seeds. I love oatmeal and granola, but typically these dishes are NOT gluten free so you can imagine my excitement when I found out I could indulge in both! While chatting with Chef Ryan, he mentioned that he rarely adds gluten to his entrees and that items containing gluten are usually just the pastries and sandwiches.
The best part about my lunch at Jeffrey’s Grocery? The potato latkes. Potato latkes almost always contain flour, but not the ones here! These latkes are all potato with a touch of onion and baked to absolute perfection. I love potatoes, and it has been YEARS since I’ve had a potato latkes; you 100% have to order this side. In the morning, there is no cross contamination in the fryers; however, in the evenings the latkes are subject to cross contamination so if you are sensitive I would sit them out. Other nobread approved orders I will be back to try: the omelette, bowl of lettuces salad, spinach salad, tuna or salmon nicoise salad (depending on the season), the salmon rillette, and the roasted chicken. These crowd favorites have received rave reviews and I look forward to trying them on future visits.
Delicious food, nobread knowledgable staff, and adorable ambiance; if you haven’t been to Jeffrey’s Grocery yet you are truly missing out. I can’t believe I let myself go 3 years living in New York City without having been here. Joseph Leonard, another Little Wisco hotspot, is located just around the corner, and I think it’s safe to say that following my amazing experiences at both places, this restaurant group is about to start seeing a lot more of me.
