For four years now, I’ve been told I HAVE to go to Joseph Leonard in the West Village. Why? Well anyone who knows me knows I love brussels sprouts, and people exclaim that the brussels sprouts at Joseph Leonard are the best in New York City. Well, after going to the restaurant, not only do I agree with everyone who has said this, but I have to say that Joseph Leonard is one of the CUTEST restaurants in the West Village. Crowds of people both near and far flock to this quintessential West Village restaurant every weekend and I totally understand why! The food is absolutely incredible, it is quaint and homey, and there is something for everyone on the menu…
Nobread brunch orders you have to try: the swiss chard and parmesan omelette served with greens, kale salad nobreadcrumbs, marinated beets, watercress salad, and frisee aux lardons salad nobrioche. If you can handle cross contamination, the caramelized cauliflower is one of the most popular dishes at JL, too. I was incredibly tempted to order this, and after seeing the table next to me enjoy it, I will absolutely try it on my next visit. Hash browns are another one of my favorite foods, and the hash browns here are gluten free! The potatoes are unique and this side dish looks like a big potato pancake. No flour is added, and the hash browns are cooked separate from other foods used in the fryer. One more word on the brussels sprouts… these sprouts are roasted with sriracha and definitely rival Rosemary’s for the best brussels sprouts in the West Village. I usually avoid all things spicy but there is just the right amount of bite on the sprouts.
I had no idea that the team behind Joseph Leonard is the same team behind other favorites Perla, Montmartre, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Fedora, and Chez Sardine. All of these spots have been on my list of restaurants to try for some time now, and after having such an amazing meal and experience at Joseph Leonard, I can promise you I will be headed to these spots VERY soon.
