La Brisa, sister restaurant to popular NYC spots Tacombi and Cafe el Presidente, is the Montauk outpost of this dynamic trio. Serving tacos, guacamole, and Mexican fare, La Brisa is a casual restaurant satisfying the East End’s Mexican craving. You may have seen pictures on social media of the restaurant’s adorable interior, as that is how I stumbled upon the restaurant, and after one meal I’m happy to announce that everything from the food to the staff to the restaurant itself beat my already high expectations…
The best part about La Brisa– even better than the outdoor seating and cute interior– is that almost the entire menu is gluten free! Yes, everything is gluten free except for the crispy fish and crispy shrimp tacos, but that’s okay since grilled shrimp and seared fish tacos are offered too! To start, you have to order the guacamole. Chunks of fresh avocado are served with delicious chips, and this dish is not to be missed. The chips, unfortunately, are subject to cross contamination in the fryer, so if you are sensitive you will have to avoid them. My favorite tacos are the seared fish and shrimp tacos. The portions are filling, and better yet, the tacos are topped with salsa making them incredibly flavorful too! Since I am dairy free, I was unable to have the quesadilla, but I was amazed to see the quesadilla served on a corn tortilla, which is not very common! For the ceviche lovers, a ceviche is offered on the menu, and although I didn’t try it, I hear it is fresh and delicious.
La Brisa is the quintessential Montauk restaurant, and I recommend checking it out during your next trip to “The End” of Long Island. Charming staff, adorable interior, and delicious Mexican cuisine… what more can I ask for?
