La Pecora Bianca opened in late summer 2015, and has made quite the impression in the NoMad area! With an adorable ambiance and a menu of Italian classics as well as traditional American dishes, La Pecora Bianca is sure to cater to everyone’s tastes! I finally had the opportunity to check out the restaurant this week, and I’m happy to announce there are plenty of (delicious) options for the NOBREAD crowd! …
I know what you’re thinking. “It’s an Italian restaurant and people rave about their pasta, is there anything that I’ll be able to eat?” The answer is yes! To start, I highly recommend the Toscano Kale Salad with no breadcrumbs. This salad is light and refreshing, and it is the perfect way to kick off your meal. As I always do, I immediately checked out the list of sides, and I was so excited to see so many vegetable options! You can’t go wrong with the broccolini or cauliflower, but it was the asparagus with a soft boiled egg on top that stole the show. This dish was full of flavor, and who doesn’t want a little bit of yolk porn?? Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t serve any gluten-free bread, so the Toast and Panini sections of the menu are a no-go. BUT, I have great news. La Pecora serves gluten-free pasta! All pastas can be made with the GF pasta except for the lasagna, which was expected. We opted for the Gramigna, which is comprised of house-made pork sausage, broccolini, garlic, and calabrian chili flakes. It was delicious! Lastly, if you are in the mood for a protein-packed main course, the branzino and chicken paillard are both gluten-free and looked pretty awesome!
I was very pleased with my first experience at La Pecora Bianca and would totally recommend it, especially if you work in Flatiron. From the ambiance to the service to the clientele, everything was great. Now I just need to wake up out of this food coma…
