It’s official! Food markets are taking over New York City anddd I’m not complaining about it. Gotham West Market, Chelsea Market, and the new Hudson Eats; food markets are sprouting up everywhere and giving fast casual restaurants more venues and more opportunities to shine. Recently, I stumbled upon Los Tacos No.1 located in Chelsea Market and I couldn’t be happier with my discovery. With an ambiance that resembles Tacombi in NoLiTa and tacos that remind me of Otto’s Tacos in the East Village, I knew Los Tacos No.1 would be nobread approved before I even had my first bite! …
At Los Tacos ordering is simple. You can choose from one of three gluten free meats (skirt steak, chicken, or pork) if you’re a carnivore, or you can choose cactus if you prefer nomeat. The flour tortillas are NOT gluten free, but the corn tortillas are 100% GF! You will then be asked which toppings you would like added to your taco. Toppings include salsa, guacamole, onion, and cilantro, and all toppings are gluten free! Viola; your taco is served. To add variety to their menu, Los Tacos offers your creation as a taco, tostada, or mula (quesadilla that uses a corn tortilla). I ordered the chicken taco with ALL toppings on a corn tortilla shell, and a side order of the chips and guacamole, and I loved it! The guacamole is amazing, but there IS dairy in the guac, so if you are sensitive or allergic to dairy I would stick with salsa. Also, the chips are fried so if you are sensitive to cross contamination I would skip the chips, too. Lastly, the nopal plate is NOT gluten free due to the beans.

CHEAP, delicious, and fast; Los Tacos No.1 is the perfect addition to Chelsea Market. I’ve noticed recently that Chelsea and the Meatpacking District don’t have many Mexican restaurants (if any), and this small fast casual absolutely fills the neighborhood’s void. To top it off, my one monster taco cost me $3.50… so yeah, I will absolutely be back soon!
