My favorite item here is the ham and cheese pastry pocket. Warm and comforting, this flaky pastry delight will keep your belly full as you wander through the marketplace. Other pastries made with this amazing dough include veggie pastry pockets, empanadas, quiches, and chicken pot pies, some of which you also have the option to buy frozen and heat at home if you like. A variety of sandwiches make great lunch options too; tuna melt, grilled cheese, turkey ratatouille, and california veggie, served on rye, batard, baguette and sandwich rolls to name a few. The rest of Mariposa’s offerings include an array of bagels, whole loaves of bread (also available frozen), crackers and more. Pizza crusts and pastas (ravioli, fettucini, lasagna) are also available from the freezer. And of course, perhaps most importantly, the sweets. You’ll find loads of varieties of cakes, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, donuts, muffins, pies and pastries here – all gluten-free! The gooey cinnamon rolls are what dreams are made of, and the mini cupcakes, packaged adorably, make a perfect hostess gift (if you can keep your hands off of them). But the next item I’m really dying to try is the carrot cake, which I fully intend to get next time I have an occasion to buy one for!
With another location (the original) located in Oakland, Mariposa has been in the gluten-free game since 2004, and has clearly figured it out. Keep these guys in mind for all your pastry, bread, and cake desires.
