Mason Pacific is located on the border of Nob Hill and China Town. The unassuming location makes this neighborhood joint a great weeknight getaway. Inside, the restaurant is dimly lit which makes it tough to see the food, but it just sets the mood for an amazing, foodie experience…
I ordered myself a glass of wine before I even glanced at the menu, and to start, I enjoyed a delicious kale salad with frisee, marcona almond, pear, bee pollen, honey yogurt and pomegranates, as well as a roasted asparagus salad with prosciutto, grapefruit, endive and hollandaise sauce. These salads were the perfect, light and refreshing way to start the meal.
Next up were the crispy Brussels sprouts. I eat Brussels sprouts at least 3 times a week and couldn’t pass these up! They had a beautiful crisp on them and were cooked in some red wine and garnished with grapes. For my entree, I ordered the squid– another one of my favorites! This couldn’t have been cooked any more perfectly. There was an incredible char on the bottom and it was served over labne yogurt and some gigante beans. This was the best octopus I’ve ever had!
I was going to stop there, but I was too tempted by the dessert menu. My choice for the evening was the chocolate pot de crème with a peanut butter topping. I’m always weary restaurants won’t have gluten-free dessert options, but Mason Pacific’s GF dessert was pretty astounding. I didn’t think the meal could get any better, but this sweet and salty combination was the perfect nightcap!
Mason Pacific is the ultimate neighborhood joint; the place to go when you need an upgrade from your usual routine. With so many gluten-free options, it is a definite must try. Plus, they have the most amazing octopus and everyone needs to try it… now!
