Everyone who knows me knows how much I love macarons. Why? Well, as you may have guessed, they are gluten free. This classic French treat became one of my go-to desserts when I first went gluten free, and I don’t think I’ve ever met a macaron that I didn’t like. While studying the LA restaurant scene… or more specifically… the gluten free dessert scene, I stumbled upon pictures of INCREDIBLE looking macaron ice cream sandwiches from Milk. The bakeshop, located in Farifax, is incredibly popular on social media, and I was quick to go and check it out for myself…
The famous Milk macaron ice cream sandwiches come in a variety of flavors: cookies and cream, strawberries and cream, red velvet, mint chocolate chip, and coffee toffee just to name a new! All sound delicious, but not all are gluten free. Gluten free options include Thai tea, grasshopper (mint chocolate chip), vanilla/chocolate fudge, Jasmine, banana dulce de leche, and coffee. Unfortunately, for those in the dairy free crowd, the ice cream sandwiches are pre made and therefore the ice cream can’t be subbed for sorbet. If you are dairy free, but CAN have gluten, you can create your own ice cream sandwich using sorbet with the bakeshop’s gluten-filled cookies. All ice creams at Milk are gluten free except for the blueberry crumble pie and cookies and cream. Lastly, the bakeshop has a GF macaron, and chocolate and butterscotch puddings that are both GF too.
There are so many spots in LA that I want to try, so I haven’t been revisiting many places but Milk is an exception. I’ve been to Milk on multiple occasions already, and I’ve ordered something different every time! The bakery is awesome and an absolute must-hit for anyone visiting the area. And for all of the locals… if you haven’t been to Milk yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for…
