Mixt Greens is the type of place everyone wants within walking distance of their office. Especially now with the summer months approaching, there never seems to be enough healthy options around at lunch time. But at Mixt Greens, healthy options are available and abundant. I could eat here every day and never get bored! And with 5 locations scattered around SoMa and the Financial District (and more coming soon), you’re likely to be near at least one of these at any given time …
If you’re feeling creative, you can design your own salad or grain bowl from a lengthy list of raw and cooked veggies, fruits, and other toppings. But the pre-curated options on the menu are expertly chosen, and tend to be the route I prefer. My favorite so far has been the Cowboy (romaine hearts, grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, black beans, sharp cheddar, scallions, point reyes blue cheese dressing with a chipotle honey drizzle) — there’s something about the combination of these cheeses, the scallions, and the delicious (slightly sweet) dressing. Another plus is the selection of seasonal salads (+ a seasonal grain bowl) that are offered in addition to the Mixt Greens classics — even more reason why you’ll never get bored of the menu here. Spring’s combinations include the Brit (butter lettuce, applewood smoked bacon, sugar snap peas, english peas, coriander roasted carrots, crispy shallots, mint, crème fraîche, red wine vinaigrette), and two others that I have yet to try. When you want to opt for something heartier than just a salad, go for one of their grain bowls (any of them that come with farro can be done with quinoa instead to make them GF). The Sombrero was super tasty, with warm quinoa, cabbage, Mexican chorizo, sharp cheddar, black beans, cherry tomatoes, toasted pumpkin seeds, fresh cilantro, scallions, and cilantro lime vinaigrette. All of the salads and grain bowls here can be modified to your liking, which makes ordering super easy.
If you have yet to make it to a Mixt Greens location, definitely try to change that soon! There’s a reason why there’s often a long line coming out of there. Its stuff is worth the wait.
