Osteria Langhe’s Northern Italian cuisine is delightfully showcased by Chef Cameron Grant. This Logan Square gem is a home run and proves you don’t need pasta for a great Italian meal…
Chicago is certainly not lacking solid Italian food, but Osteria Langhe puts the spotlight on the Piedmonte region resulting in a fresh take on a classic style. Much of the menu can be modified to be gluten-free – just ask and they will take care of you. Note, Osteria Langhe avoids the grill and fryer for all gluten-free dishes to reduce cross-contamination risks.
Take one look at this menu and you’ll want it all! We started our meal with the Vitello and Carne. This was my first time trying Vitello and it won’t be the last. The savory Carne tartare topped with lemon zest melts in your mouth. The side of bread is not missed! The Polipo was finger-licking outstanding and the Lumache, or snails, are a standout. Yes, I did say snails.
Save room for the entrees as there are many gluten-free options. The Coniglio, or rabbit, crowned with shaved black truffles is earthy, extravagant and exquisite. However, the dish of the night belonged to salmon risotto topped with pastrami-cured salmon. It was rich, it was creamy, it was heavenly. We licked the bowl clean!
Now don’t forget to always leave room for dessert. Osteria Langhe has many options for a great gluten-free ending to your night. We went with the flourless chocolate cake (hold the cookie) with fresh berries and a passion fruit glaze. This was a perfect combination to end a wonderful meal. I can’t wait to return and sample the rest of Chef Grant’s gluten free menu.
