Ostrich farm is a chic wine bar and seasonal American restaurant located near echo park. The space reminds me of some of my favorite New York restaurants because it is small enough to feel exclusive, but not too claustrophobic. The area is sleek and simple, with a very LA crowd…
Ostrich is very NOBREAD friendly because what you read on the menu is what you get. They really let the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves and there isn’t any “filler” ingredients. The servers will be happy to tell you what is gluten free since the menu is constantly evolving, but mostly if you avoid the bread and pasta you will be fine! To start, I highly recommend getting the brussels sprout vegetable side. These brussels sprouts are some of the best I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection with a runny poached egg on top. I would honestly eat this as a meal in itself. The grilled watermelon salad, a temporary seasonal summer dish, was another favorite. The watermelon is poached in olive oil before being grilled to create a more complex favor to the fruit. It is paired with heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, feta, mint and radish. I’m a huge fan of octopus so of course I had to order the grilled octopus small plate. I loved all of the flavors of the grilled onion, leeks, bell pepper, and fava beans, but I did wish the octopus spent a little less time being cooked. The salmon, on the other hand, was definitely on the more raw side. The salmon dish was amazing, it was paired with a pesto sauce, grilled blood orange, and a summer vegetable succotash. All of these ingredients contributed bright and fresh flavors to the fish.
Ostrich farm is a local spot that I strongly support. Trendy, bright, seasonal, fresh.. and the list of positive traits goes on. Visit for dinner, or brunch on weekends, to see what this newcomer has to offer.
