For years now, I have ordered chips and guacamole, tacos, and burritos from the Pampano Taqueria delivery; it’s easy, delicious, and nobread approved when you ask for corn taco shells. It wasn’t until recently when I actually went into Pampano for a sit down meal did I realize that this restaurant is more than just a taco shop; Pampano is high class, serves an extensive menu, and most importantly, essentially everything on the menu can be made gluten free…
Pampano serves fantastic Meixcan cuisine and puts an emphasis on their seafood dishes. To start, the guacamole is delicious and served with corn chips. If you are sensitive to cross contamination I advise you DO NOT have these chips, as they are fried and subject to cross contamination in the fryer. The guac itself is just how I like it; it’s not too loaded with ingredients and it is mashed perfectly. Coupled with the guacamole, I highly recommend dabbling in the ceviche tasting. Choose from halibut, mahi mahi, shrimp, tuna, and mariscos; each are gluten free and a light option to start your meal. For mains, I recommend the grilled octopus, ensalada de mariscos (shrimp / scallops / octopus / calamari / baby spinach / lemon vinaigrette), pescado platija, and the grilled salmon. All tacos, burritos, and quesadillas (essentially anything requiring a shell) can be done with a corn shell and can be made gluten free. The only dish that unfortunately is NOT gluten free is the paella, as the rice contains gluten additives.
As you should at all restaurants, be sure to tell your server that you are gluten free so the restaurant can cater to your needs appropriately. Most tacos listed on the menu are served on flour tortillas, so it is important your server knows this information and serves the proper corn shell substitute. Also, for all the chip and guacamole fans out there, your server will happily bring out non-fried chips, so don’t worry about missing out!
