Los Angeles is full of amazing, adorable cafes… it is one of my favorite things about the city! There is nothing I enjoy more than going to a café and setting up shop for the day while I work on NOBREAD; WiFi, good food, cool/chill scene… it’s a recipe for success! Paper or Plastik Café located in Mid-City, is one of these cafes I love so much. The vibe is awesome and the atmosphere is conducive for accomplishing a lot of work, the people and staff are friendly, are there are plenty of NOBREAD approved options if you’re in the mood for a bite…
On first glance of the menu, I was excited to see a key that notes which items are GF or can be made GF, which items are vegetarian or can be made vegetarian, and which items are vegan. This key makes dining easy for us in the NOBREAD crowd; however, very little on the menu is listed as GF! Turns out, thankfully, this is because much of the menu is sandwiches or includes bread, and you can always order your meal without the gluten culprit! For breakfast, the yogurt and granola is gluten free, as are all breakfast sides except for the obvious bread dishes. When I go to P&P for lunch, I’m a huge fan of the daily roasted vegetables and salad. On my most recent visit to the café, the daily vegetable was roasted carrots and green beans sautéed in garlic and olive oil, and the salad was a spinach salad with fennel and lemon vinaigrette; both were awesome! The daily frittata is gluten free, and I recommend it for all who can tolerate dairy.
Paper or Plastik Café also has a variety of fresh pastries. The majority are gluten full, but there is a gluten free and vegan chocolate cookie that is the perfect snack for when you start to go a little stir crazy. Great vibe, awesome ambiance, and solid food; I’m excited to make Paper or Plastik one of my go-to cafes!
