When it comes to restaurants and dining, I live by two rules. First rule: if I CAN eat it, I will eat it (or at least try it). Second rule: no indoor activities or indoor dining until it is too cold to be outside. When The Pavilion opened this past Spring, right in the heart of Union Square, I was thrilled. Not only does the restaurant have an extensive menu full of dishes I was more than eager to try, but the restaurant is fully outdoors! Hello my new hangout every April through October…
The menu at The Pavilion is extensive, and there is something for everyone! Last week I went to the restaurant for the first time with my sister, and we were both very pleased by our experience. My sister ordered the organic salmon pot au feu with fennel, pearl onion, carrots, and tomato, and commented that it was the best salmon she has had in New York City. I tried a bite and will confirm that the salmon is delicious! A week later, one of my girlfriends went to the restaurant and shared similar enthusiasm over her branzino. I opted for a salad; the kale caesar salad and greek salad are both gluten free when you ask for them with nocroutons. The salad portions are large and more than filling, especially if you add chicken, salmon, or shrimp to the dish. Two entrees that unfortunately are NOT gluten free are the roasted organic chicken and seared sirloin. Thankfully, the gluten is just in the sauces, so the kitchen can easily prepare these dishes GF if you ask for them nosauce. The french fries and home fries at The Pavilion are very popular, too, but both potatoes are subject to cross contamination, so if you are sensitive I recommend asking for a side of greens.
The Pavilion is centrally located in New York City, making it the perfect place to meet friends for a post-work drink or for a few cocktails before a night out. And I should mention… the cocktails at the Pavilion are delicious! I was initially drawn to the refreshing, fruity summer cocktails, but when I saw two gluten free beers on the menu I had to try one! Great food, delicious drinks, and the perfect summer vibe; I definitely recommend you check out The Pavilion before it gets too cold!
