I’d like to say I’m a pretty healthy person… except when I’m near sweets. There’s no stopping me! One look at the sugary goodness and I’m done! So, as you can imagine, now that I’m back in LA, I’m on the hunt for the best gluten-free treats! In asking my followers for recommendations, I was told to check out Sidecar Doughnuts in Santa Monica. Upon checking out their site, I was psyched to see a long list of gluten-free doughnut flavors at the bakery, and just days later I ventured to the hotspot!…
As you enter the Doughnut shop, you are immedialtey overwhelmed by the AMAZING scent of sugar and sweets! What I love most about the bakery is the setup. Doughnuts are kept behind a glass encasement, but the kitchen is fully exposed and you can see the doughnuts being made as you wait! There is always one gluten-free doughnut on the menu, and the gluten-free flavor changes week to week. The week I went to the bakery, the flavor was Huckleberry. As told by the owner, Huckleberry is the most popular flavor, and I understand why. THE DOUGHNUT WAS AMAZING. I don’t even know what a Huckleberry is, but I now need to find out! Lucky for me, a fresh batch was being pulled out of the oven as I arrived, so I watched as my doughnut was dipped into Huckleberry paste and set on my plate. One bite of the doughnut and I was MELTING with joy. In regards to other gluten-free flavors, Persimmon Pudding and Black Velvet are gluten-free versions of a few special monthly flavors, and all the others are gluten-free versions of the bakery’s classics. I think the Huckleberry gluten-free doughnut needs permanent residency on the menu, but I look forward to coming back each week and trying more flavors!!
For the dairy-free crew, the gluten-free doughnuts are NOT dairy-free, so you will have to skip these wonderful treats. I’m SO happy to have found Sidecar, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be back in every week to try the latest GF flavor. I can only imagine how amazing the rest of the gluten-free varieties are. See you soon, Sidecar!
