The macarons, in every color of the rainbow, some with sprinkles, some without, are naturally gluten-free. Made with almond flour and egg whites, macarons are a GF girl’s (or guy’s!) best friend. At Sift they come in an array of flavors, including some seasonal and holiday themed flavors which change periodically. When I visited in February, I was lucky to sample the Valentine’s Day themed macaron flavor; chocolate covered strawberry. Other regular flavors include classics like salted caramel, meyer lemon, strawberry, and coffee cream. Some of the more unique flavors include earl grey, raspberry champagne, pumpkin bourbon, and blackberry lavender. All of the flavors I tried were yummy, and come in a super cute box that would make a great gift. Cupcakes on the other hand, are only served gluten-free on Wednesdays, or are available by special order. These come in 3 classic flavors, chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet. All three flavors were spot on. But as Sift’s slogan suggests, they are indeed “frosting obsessed,” the frosting being perhaps the best part of the whole experience.
With colorful stools and a long counter to sit at, this is a great spot to wander into while you’re shopping next door on Fillmore street and need a little sweet pick-me-up. Open until 9 pm on weekdays, and 10 pm on weekends, it’s also the perfect after-dinner destination for when you’re dining nearby or going out for dessert. Call ahead to special order your GF treats for birthdays, dinner parties, baby showers, etc. Frosted with love, and artfully decorated, they’re bound to be the hit of any party they make an appearance at.
