As I’ve said many times before, Steakhouses are my favorite restaurants as they are the easiest to be gluten free at. Large cuts of meat, fish, vegetables, and potatoes fill the menu and massive portion sizes will leave you full for hours (or in my case, days). I like to call Smith and Wollenskys my ‘ol reliable. My family has been going to S&W since I can remember and it is definitely our “go-to” New York City steakhouse so I was excited when I realized Chicago also has its very own S&W…
To start, the entrees, appetizers, and side orders are HUGE, so go hungry. The king salmon is my favorite entree to order; the best part about all the fish offered is that it is served simply grilled with olive oil, and whether or not you want to add sauce is your choice. Be careful though as not all sauces are gluten free; you should avoid the sesame soy if you are gluten free and avoid the lemon butter sauce if you are dairy free. Filets, as well as other cuts of meat including sirloins, lamb chops etc at S&W are HUGE and unless you want to enter a severe food coma, I recommend sharing. Similar to the fish, these cuts of meat are served #nosauce.
The meat and seafood entrees are not accompanied by any sides, which is fine by me because I love to select the side orders myself. The list of sides is incredible and includes hash browns, broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower to name a few. Several of these sides note that they are large enough for two, but in reality, all sides are large enough for four.
Come to Smith & Wollenskys hungry, and you will absolutely leave happy… and full.
