Located in the up-and-coming Shaw neighborhood, Smoked & Stacked is bringing the district some much needed barbecue flavors. Serving traditional BBQ style sandwiches and sides, Smoked & Stacked is a hidden gem definitely worth checking out…
Smoked & Stacked is best known for their amazing sandwiches; and luckily all of its sandwiches can be made gluten free! I recommend trying either The Messy or The Stacked. The bread used for the gluten free sandwiches at Smoked & Stacked comes from Rise Bakery, a 100% gluten free bakery in Adams Morgan. I have always found gluten free bread to crumble easily so I was a worried that The Messy would fall apart in my hands when I went to try it. However, the bread held up with all the pork and BBQ sauce.
Smoked & Stacked also offers salads that are most definitely “stacked.” If you want to taste a sampling of different meats and don’t want all of the bread of a sandwich, I recommend ordering The Field Salad. Filled with pork, smoked chicken, tomato, tabouli, smoked portobello, and a honey dijon vinaigrette this salad as a little bit of everything.
In terms of sides, the potato salad and the tabouli salad are both gluten free. The potato salad is creamy and very filling. My friend and I finished the entire container of potato salad in seconds- it was so good. For the tabouli salad, Smoked & Stacked uses quinoa instead of the traditional barley, which makes it naturally gluten free.
If you are in the mood for a mix of deli sandwiches and traditional barbecue, Smoked & Stacked is the place to go. With a menu that can be made almost entirely gluten free, and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, Smoked & Stacked offers something every meat lover will love.
