Tacko is a great Mexican establishment in the Marina, serving up classic Mexican food with a bit of Norcal flair. Since it’s an order-at-the-counter spot, it’s a quick and easy gluten-free dining option that is sure to satiate…
Navigating the menu at Tacko is fairly easy; almost everything on the menu is gluten-free with the exceptions of the burritos, since they are made on a wheat tortilla. Also, anything in a bun has gluten, like the lobster roll, but you can easily have it replaced with a corn tortilla!
To order, you’re going to want to start out with the guacamole with veggies, which is a great lower-cal option and gives you more room to eat tacos. The chicken tortilla soup and Grilled Corn and Black Bean Taco Salad are also great appetizers that are naturally GF. In my opinion, the highlight of the menu is the Tacos, especially the taco called Nick’s Way. Nick’s Way is one crispy corn tortilla wrapped in a soft tortilla w/ Monterey jack cheese, pinto beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and any meat of your choosing. Essentially, it is a crispy quesadilla wrapping your taco – you do NOT want to miss this. We also ordered grilled fish tacos, which are my typical go-to at a Mexican restaurant and they were very fresh and delicious. For a fun refreshing beverage, make sure to order an Agua Fresca. They are made with fresh fruit like strawberries or watermelon and small amounts of cane sugar.
If you’re sensitive to cross-contamination, note that all the crispy items on the menu are made on the same surface as the burritos. So be sure to let the counter staff know if you are gluten-free and how sensitive you are, and they will be sure to make the right accommodations!
Overall, Tacko is a fantastic way to eat gluten-free without having to be one of those people who makes 15 changes to their order to be compliant. The food is great, fresh and light compared to other Mexican food I’ve had. Make sure to check it out, it will not disappoint.
