Finding a good ‘deli’ with gluten-free options is not an easy task. Luckily Taylor Gourmet, D.C.’s signature upscale deli/sandwich shop, has begun offering gluten-free wraps for all of their sandwiches, making it the best place to go to grab an incredible gluten-free sandwich…
Since it first opened, Taylor Gourmet has become well known in D.C. for its hoagies, and outside of D.C. as the sandwich shop Obama and Biden go to. Taylor Gourmet’s hoagies are all named after streets in Philadelphia, as homage to the owner’s Pennsylvania roots. The founders have taste tested hundreds of sandwiches before perfecting their menu.
Most of the hoagies at Taylor Gourmet can be made gluten-free- just ask for a gluten-free wrap when ordering. The 9th is my personal favorite. With Genoa Salami, Hot Capicola, Prosciutto, and Sharp Provolone, the 9th is the perfect Italian-style hoagie. Other favorites that can be made gluten-free are the Church which has hot Italian sausage, provolone, and sautéed peppers and onions, and the South which has Chicken (ask for the grilled chicken to make it gluten-free), sweet basil pesto, and lemon basil goat cheese.
Although the majority of Taylor Gourmet’s sandwiches contain meat, there are a few vegetarian sandwich options that can be made gluten-free. The Christian hoagie has balsamic marinated Portobello mushrooms, lemon basil goat cheese, and roasted red peppers.
Along with the multitude of sandwich options, Taylor Gourmet offers a range of salad options as well. The salad options are not your typical Caesar or Greek salad; each salad is unique and filled with fresh and seasonal ingredients. The Logan Salad, my personal favorite, has shredded kale, butternut squash and apple cider vinaigrette, while the Mayfair has arugula, roasted beets, and navel oranges. You can also add grilled chicken to any salad for some additional gluten-free protein.
Also, Taylor Gourmet has partnered with RunningByrd Tea to offer a variety of iced tea options to pair with your hoagie. I recommend the Penn’s Peach Tea if you are looking for something sweet, or the Woodmont White if you want something unsweetened.
Luckily for gluten-free patron’s Taylor Gourmet has recently jumped on the GF bandwagon and has begun offering gluten-free wraps. When you are craving an authentic Italian style deli sandwich, look no further than Taylor Gourmet.
