Margaritas and house music sum up this Murray Hill spot. When I lived in Murray Hill, I went to Teqa whenever I had a sudden guacamole craving and didn’t want to go far. Teqa is definitely one of Murray Hill’s trendier spots, and outdoor seating is an added plus for warmer days. All Margaritas use 100% Agave spirits and fresh hand squeezed citrus juices daily. This is stated clearly on their menu, which I appreciate as it saves me from asking ‘are you sure the margaritas are 100% natural?’…
The chips served with the guac are fried but there are two kitchens in the fryer and the chips are not subject to cross contamination. So what do I like about Teqa? All tacos are gluten free (corn tortillas) except the mahi mahi and shrimp tacos because they are beer battered, but they can be prepared grilled. Any appetizer used with corn tortillas is also gluten free, as well as the short rib and other items. I love sauté vegetables, and Mexican restaurants typically don’t offer vegetables sides (occasionally you’ll see sauté spinach but this isn’t always the case). Teqa offers grilled corn, yellow rice, and pinto beans (expected sides), AND also a vegetable medley of mushroom, green beans, leeks, and sweet peppers. This side is delicious and the perfect healthy supplement to your not-so-healthy meal.
Teqa, along with El Rio, spice up Murray Hill’s mexican dining scene and are perfect options to satisfy your guacamole craving!
