My first “taste” of Thalassa was this past Spring at Taste of TriBeCa. Down to one of my last meal tickets, I decided to try Thalassa’s octopus. One bite was all it took for me to fall in love, and I quickly returned to the booth and had 3 more “tastes.” While at the booth, the chef of Thalassa told me their menu notes ‘GF’ next to all foods that are gluten free, and I immediately added Thalassa to my list of restaurants to try…
I finally made it to Thalassa this week and was beyond impressed. Similar to Avra in Midtown East, my other Greek/Seafood favorite, the food at Thalassa is naturally very gluten friendly. To start, I highly recommend the colossal crab meat salad, stuffed calamari, octopus, organic black quinoa with sweet potato and cauliflower, and greek salad with tomatoes, feta, peppers, and cucumber. I typically only like crab meat in small doses, but I could have eaten ten more crab salads. The meat was incredibly tender and the truffle vinaigrette was the perfect touch. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the octopus at Thalassa is absurdly delicious and one of the best in New York City. For my main course I was served the Lavraki with steamed greens, and I ordered brussels sprouts roasted with garlic for the table. The Lavraki was delicious; it was light, flaky, and the capers were a necessary touch. In the end, I consumed an incredible amount of food, but everything was so light I didn’t leave feeling too full or in a food coma. Rather, I left satisfied, impressed, and wanting more!
My experience at Thalassa was perfect. The managers, waiters, and chefs are best in class, the food is absolutely delicious, and you have to love a restaurant that goes out of their way to cater to people with gluten allergies! I was also impressed by Thalassa’s size! A banquet area downstairs that is perfect for a wedding reception, and even more event space upstairs that is conducive for your next client event, wedding, or birthday party. Thank you Tasso and the rest of the Thalassa team for my wonderful dining experience; I will absolutely be back soon!
