When it comes to my dining tastes and preferences, I’d say I’m a purist. Grilled fish, roasted vegetables, simple salads, fries and I’m happy. I do, however, pride myself on the fact that I will eat anything that I CAN eat. So when I was invited this week to The District by Hannah An, a Vietnamese hotspot in Beverly Grove, I was excited and eager to diversify my dining regimen…
It’s easy to be gluten free at The District, as the restaurant notes which items are NOBREAD friendly on the menu! And for the vegetarians in the crowd, the menu also notes which items are vegetarian-friendly. Any time I see a fried calamari that is gluten free on the menu, I order it, and it was the first appetizer I requested at lunch this week. The calamari is coated in corn starch and SO yummy! Next, we ordered the Saigon rice noodle salad. This salad is 100% gluten-free and consists of a Cha gio roll, sliced lemongrass skirt steak, pickled vegetables, and Vietnamese herbs. The Cha gio roll, my favorite part of this salad, is a Crispy chicken rice paper roll with garlic and lime. Next up was the brussels sprouts, because when do I not order brussels sprouts? Good news, the sprouts didn’t disappoint!! ‘Broth’ was all the rage in NYC and LA this year, and The District is known for their gluten-free Pho dishes that are filled with flavorful meats and broth! I went with the Beef Pho, and it was delicious. Filled with filet mignon, broth, onion, rice noodles, scallions, and bean sprouts, this dish is not only healthy, but incredibly flavorful, and it is an absolute must order. If you’re not full yet, the seared salmon is incredible and quite the portion!
Delicious food in a cool ambiance, The District is a place you must stop by the next time you’re in the mood for Asian Fusion cuisine. The District is also popular for events, and the upstairs bar and dining room is the perfect place for your next party or video shoot. I will absolutely be back!!
