I’ve wanted to go to The Fat Radish ever since I’ve moved to NYC. The space is absolutely adorable, the team prides themselves on serving fresh, farm-to-table cuisine, and the menu is gluten-free friendly! I had the opportunity to go to the restaurant this week for brunch, and the verdict is in… The Fat Radish is awesome!…
Like all brunch menus, The Fat Radish brunch menu is a bit gluten-heavy. Scones and pastries are popular starters, but unfortunately none are gluten-free. Thankfully, the restaurant is devoted to sustainable cooking and fresh ingredients and produce, thus a lot of the menu is or can be made gluten-free upon request. I highly recommend any of the egg dishes; the All Greens Omelette, Farm Egg Scramble, and Squash Frittata all sound great. I opted for the Fat Radish Market Plate which was both gluten-free and vegan!! The plate consisted of steamed carrots, squash, root vegetables, beans, sweet potato, rice and more–it just tasted healthy. I know that doesn’t make sense, but once you try it you’ll know what I mean. My brunch guests ordered the burger with NOBREAD and truffled duck fat chips, as well as the full English Breakfast (NOBREAD). The truffled duck fat chips weren’t the classic potato chips you’re envisioning, nor were they the french fries you see at all other restaurants. The potato wedges were thick, flavorful, and FILLING. For sides, the bacon and the truffle duck fat chips were not to be missed! The menu expands for lunch and dinner, and on the dinner menu, the heirloom carrots with avocado, kale, and hijiki looks incredible! As does the Montauk diver scallops with golden beets and sweet potato hash.
So why did it take me so long to go to the restaurant? This popular Girls Night Out spot takes cash only, which is a bit of a hassle for those like myself who walk around with $0 at all times. But after this brunch, it looks like I’ll be carrying a bit more $$ on me… The Fat Radish is too good to miss out on!
