Oceanaire is a seafood restaurant here in Washington DC… couldn’t you tell that from the name alone?! With locations in Atlanta, Boston, Miami, Washington D.C. and more, Oceanaire has made a name for itself as one of the best seafood restaurants around. To top it off, Oceanaire is known for how gluten-free friendly it is! We here at NOBREAD were excited to check it out…
Oceanaire has a tremendous number of options for the NOBREAD crowd. Although they do not have a separate gluten-free menu, the vast majority of their menu is gluten-free, or can be modified to be gluten-free. Our waiter was happy to walk through the entire menu with me and help me pick the best gluten-free options! To kick the meal off, we were given a plate of vegetables (carrots, olives, radishes, etc.) instead of a bread plate. To start, I recommend the Tequila Shrimp Ceviche. Served in a martini glass, the ceviche has smaller pieces of shrimp and tomato and is served with fresh avocado and chili dusted tortilla chips. The Steak Salad is another gluten-free favorite with fresh goat cheese, slices of steak, cherry tomatoes, and a balsamic glaze. For the main course, I recommend either the “Black & Bleu” Carolina Swordfish or the Sesame Seared Yellowfin “Ahi” Tuna. The swordfish is blackened and served with slow roasted caramelized onions and a dollop of blue cheese. I couldn’t get enough of this dish! The tuna is gluten-free friendly when served without the seaweed salad and soy sauce. Even without these, this dish shines! If you still have room after your meal, gluten-free dessert options include a seasonal sorbet and Crème Brulee. As Crème Brulee is my weakness, I knew I had to give it a try. It was the perfect ratio of creamy and crunchy!
My experience at Oceaniare was perfect, and I cannot wait to go back! The food was amazing and I am excited to try their other dishes such as the Butternut Squash and Kale Salad, and the Maine Sea Scallops. All of the waiters, and chefs were extremely NOBREAD knowledgeable, which made my dinning experience even more enjoyable. If you are in the Metro Center area, or in a city that has an Oceaniare, definitely check them out!
