By now you’ve been to The Smith, and if you haven’t been yet you’re likely to go soon. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner; The Smith serves them all. With locations in Union Square, Columbus Circle, and Midtown East, it’s no wonder why this restaurant is able to attract crowds from all over! Not only does everything on the menu look and sound amazing, but there is something for everyone and every craving…
If you come here for brunch, the home fries are ACTUALLY the best in NYC… and you all know I’ve eaten just about every home fry, french fry, or roast potato in the city. The sides on the menu include many of my favorites, and theres times I’ve just ordered a combination of sides (brussels sprouts, home fries, sauté spinach, roasted zucchini). Favorite orders: hot potato chips and fried artichoke to start. WARNING: the fried artichokes ARE NOT totally gluten free as they are cooked in the same fryer as breaded dishes. This is the case for anything fried at The Smith, including the home fries, french fries, and brussels sprouts. You absolutely have to order the brussels sprouts; I can confidently say these brussels sprouts are top 3 in NYC! GOOD NEWS– The Smith is very conscious of gluten allergies and dietary restrictions, and if you are sensitive to cross contamination the kitchen is happy to fry your food separately!
For brunch – the egg white omelette with spinach nogoatcheese is a fan favorite (as is the vanilla bean french toast, but who needs that bread anyway). To make brunch even better, everyone who orders a brunch entree receives a free bloody Mary, bellini, blood orange mimosa, passion punch, or a fresh squeezed juice. For lunch/dinner, I highly recommend the kale salad, roasted chicken salad (arugula, apple, walnut, grilled onion), grilled salmon, or brick pressed chicken. The Smith’s menu, like most menus, changes with the season. Yes, you will always see a GF salmon and chicken entree, but make sure you check out the accompanying sauce and side. I recently ordered the salmon assuming it was 100% nobread approved; however, it was served on top of shaved brussels sprouts dressed in teriyaki sauce… yikes.
The Smith is a go-to restaurant for just about everyone in New York City. It is perfect for a catch up with friends, date, or dinner with your parents, and to top it off, everything on the menu is very good! And with a menu this large, it’s fun trying new things on each visit! Be back (very) soon, Smith!
