It’s taken years, but New York City restaurants are finally recognizing the importance of catering to gluten allergies and dietary restrictions. Given that much of NYC’s working crowd commutes from towns outside NYC, it about time neighboring counties got with the program, too. Thyme Restaurant, located in Yorktown Heights, is one of the restaurants pioneering the gluten free movement outside of NYC and is doing so with great success. With his recent diagnosis of Celiac Disease, Executive Chef and Owner Thomas Costello, has entirely revamped the menu at his Yorktown Heights steak and seafood restaurant to ensure that those with a gluten intolerance remain well fed without having to sacrifice flavor. In addition to hand-carved meats and seafood, his menu contains pizzas, pastas and desserts that are all void of gluten, and are certain to satisfy any craving…
NOBREAD approved favorites? Chef Tom’s top picks are the gluten free crab cake and eggplant parmigiana. Crab cakes are RARELY gluten free and eggplant parmigiana is often breaded, so the fact that both of these dishes are naturally nobread approved is amazing! The stuffed mushrooms and seared diver scallops are both gluten free and popular appetizers at the restaurant, too. The best part about Thyme is the gluten free PASTA and PIZZA! Vegan, margarita, and bacon & onion pizzas are featured on the menu, and can be made with a gluten free crust upon request! Also, all pasta dishes can be prepared gluten free except for the ravioli. Unfortunately, Thyme doesn’t serve gluten free bread for the sandwiches and burgers, but these dishes are all GF if you ask for them nobread. To top it off, all seafood options on the menu are gluten free, and the HUGE list of hand carved meats are gluten free, too! Plenty to order!
90% of the menu at Thyme is gluten free, and any dish that isn’t already GF can be made GF with a quick fix. The staff is incredibly conscious of gluten allergies and dietary restrictions, too, and Chef Tom tells me there is no flour OR breadcrumbs served at the restaurant so there is no chance of gluten being added to your dish! Yes Thyme is a bit of a trip for those of us in NYC (about 45 mins to an hour away), but for those of you in Westchester, Thyme needs to be added to your list of restaurants… now!
