Tortaria is a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar located on University Place near Union Square. The ambience is casual and its interior is designed to look like a Mexico City bodega. Aside from their made-to-order guacamole (which is delicious), Tortaria specializes in tortas and taquitos…
Tortaria doesn’t have a gluten-free menu, but some of their taquitos are gluten-free already, as are the chips served with guacamole. If something is not GF, all you have to do is ask and they are happy to accommodate. I went for brunch, and my favorite dish was the vegetable omelette taquito, which is a variety of vegetables, eggs, and cheese served on two corn-masa tortillas. I would also recommend any of their taquitos, specifically the mahi lime tacos (ask for the corn tortilla) or the tacos al pastor!
I’ve had many a girls’ nights over cocktails at Tortaria, but never tried their food until I went for brunch. I was so impressed! I will definitely be back to try some of the other items on their menu, like the huevos con carne or the papaya king margarita. Between the drinks, chips and guac, and your meal, you won’t leave hungry! So if you’re looking to spice up your Sunday brunch and add a Mexican flare, gather your friends and head to Tortaria. You won’t be disappointed!
