Seafood, gluten free pasta, and SIDE ORDERS. Three traits that sum up this Midtown West restaurant. I write all the time about how much I love sides, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I walked in and was led to a bar displaying all of Trattoria’s antipasti and nobread side orders rather than their desserts and alcohols!…
Trattoria is known for their 32 vegetable and 12 seafood options, and they typically run a few extra specials that aren’t listed on the menu. You can order an antipasti plate consisting of a medley of vegetables or seafood to start; these sides are gluten free with the exception of the whole wheat couscous. Of the vegetable sides, I strongly recommend the cauliflower steak, zucchini parmigiana (I ordered mine nodairy), artichokes, and roasted potatoes with peppers and onions (all of these can be served warm). The broccoli rabe, haricot verts with toasted almonds, chickpea and asparagus mix, grilled pencil asparagus, and roasted peppers are excellent as well. The seafood antipasti look delicious and are nobread friendly, and I wish I had added a few to my plate (I went all veggie to start). For mains, the salmon steak, tuna burger (nobread), seared diver scallops with artichoke and potatoes, and lemon chicken are the perfect nobread orders. And don’t forget about the pastas! Gluten free pasta is available and highlighted on the menu.
So much to order but only one me! To top off my experience off, when I arrived and asked a manager about gluten free options, she enthusiastically told me about their gluten free pasta and how all gluten free pasta is boiled in water separate from the water regular pasta is boiled in. She also made sure to note that there is NO cross contamination in the fryer. Everything about Trattoria is great; the menu, the food, the service. I will happily come back here again!
