Although a destination spot located in the West Town/River West neighborhood of Chicago, TWO is definitely worth the visit. The vibe in the restaurant is industrial, but comfortable. There is an eclectic mix of modern and old, with exposed pipes and a rustic warehouse feel. TWO has been open for five years and everything in the restaurant has been used before – giving it the name TWO, for second time around. The cuisine is American, but has a diverse flavoring with a spin on your traditional dishes…
TWO has a fairly large menu that changes often. About 50% of the menu can be made gluten-free friendly. All ingredients are fresh, local, if possible, and in season. The Brussels sprouts were by far the best dish I tried! They were very light and perfectly crispy. The arugula salad had great flavor and very fresh ingredients. It was also a refreshing dish like the Brussels sprouts, however this salad had honey crisp apples, which added the right amount of sweetness. The Arctic Char was very flavorful, featuring soft salmon and roasted carrots. The mix of textures made the dish stand out. There are plenty of gluten-free options here, but cross contamination is a concern. The chef is willing to make menu modifications like removing ingredients from a dish. One thing to note is that everything marked GF at TWO is naturally gluten-free. They do not experiment with gluten-free substitutes like bread or pasta.
I would recommend this restaurant for a fancy dinner! TWO is only open during dinner hours and is perfect for a nice occasion like dinner with your parents. Menu items that are naturally gluten free would be the best option here for someone eating GF. For instance, the meat dishes like the pork, chicken or steak. The chef is aware of most food allergies and sensitivities, but be sure to double check tricky items like the cauliflower dish that has a beer cheese sauce.
