LA may be full of swanky food establishments, but few do atmosphere and delicious food as well as the new Santa Monica bistro, Upper West. This new LA gem serves a new take on comfort food, and set in a loft-like environment, this hotspot shouldn’t be missed…
The best part about Upper West is that they have a gluten free menu. That’s right, the separate menu is not only full of delicious options, but it’s extensive! For a starter, the corn soup, without the falafel is the perfect balance of sweet and savory and has just the right amount of spice with a creamy finish. The charred broccoli salad, minus the croutons, is fresh and hearty and served with sun dried tomatoes, raisins, feta and a balsamic syrup. For a main course, the coffee crusted kurobuta pork tenderloin is not only a popular item, but it also showcases the establishment’s ingenuity as well. The pork is served with a goat cheese potato puree, roasted jalapeno apple sauce, and a citrus demi. For a heartier option, you have to order the burger, and omit the bun. The dish is essentially a “burger bowl” and the burger is dressed with a delicious balsamic-walla walla onion marmalade and pasilla goat cheese spread. Lastly, you can’t order food without a drink to wash it down! The bar at Upper West is cool and features trendy takes on classic drinks. The lychee martini and basil icelander are popular options for a liquid libation, and both are gluten free!
For an experience that is just as tasty as it is trendy, check out Upper West. It is rare to find establishments that are sophisticated and accommodating, and Upper West sets the bar high for those who wish to follow.
