If you’re in LA and you want to find me, you should probably check out Le Zinque cafe in Venice. Located right off of Abbot Kinney, Zinque has become my go-to coffee/lunch/hang out spot during the week–what’s better than doing your work over good food and even better people watching? Zinque has an extensive menu with plenty of gluten free options, which I love because it means I can try something new each time…
There is no gluten free bread offered at the restaurant, so unfortunately the sandwich and tartine section of the menu is a no-go, BUT the cafe is happy to make you a sandwich wrapped in butter lettuce instead of bread. From the sandwich list, I’m a big fan of the market veggies nobread. Carrots, avocado, arugula, marinated peppers, and tomatoes with pesto comprise this dish–it’s pretty awesome. For breakfast I love ordering the egg white frittata with zucchini. The frittata is dairy free too, not to mention tiny, so it’s the perfect mid-morning snack. If you want the fritatta for a meal, it’s only $3, so order a few! For a more filling lunch option, I recommend Le Bowl. This dish is brown rice with a chicken or egg white frittata, avocado, tomato, arugula, and parmesan, and you can add smoked salmon, ahi tuna, or ratatouille for an additional charge. Lastly, I’m a big fan of the salads at Zinque. The avocado, arugula, tomato with added egg whites and smoked salmon is my go-to!
At night, Le Zinque turns into a trendy wine bar and serves a dinner menu with popular small plate/wine bar items. From this list, I recommend the fries (cooked in a separate fryer!), marcona almonds, and roasted mini sausages. My only complaint about Zinque is that there aren’t any outlets in the cafe, so you’ll have to catch me there before my laptop and phone die 🙂
