Prior to my LA trip, the number of people that told me I HAD to go to Joan’s on 3rd for lunch was absurd. Similar to other LA Cafés, Joan’s is a casual, healthy hotspot featuring sandwiches and salads. Located right on 3rd Street in Beverly Grove, Joan’s stands out as it attracts West Hollywood’s scene-sters looking for a good meal after a big night. The café actually attracts people from the greater LA area, too, and it’s the perfect place for people of any age at any time of day…
I had my first Joan’s experience last week, and I had the opportunity to experience the hype. Sandwiches comprised a majority of the menu, so I was disappointed to hear that the café didn’t offer gluten free bread. Thankfully, an extensive list of salads was available, all of which could be made gluten free if they weren’t GF already. I ordered the Southwest Salad with jicama, chickpeas, tomato, red pepper, avocado, and corn, and asked for no tortilla strips to make the salad gluten free. My friend ordered the tuna salad, which was naturally GF, and she commented that it was her go-to Joan’s order. Other salads that caught my eye were the field greens with grilled chicken and spiced pecans and butter lettuce with dried organic cranberries.
For breakfast, omelettes and egg scrambles, nobread of course, are screaming my name, and I hear these are Joan’s specialties. Outdoor seating, large portions, and good food; it’s no wonder why Joan’s has made its mark on the LA food scene. After your meal, check out the marketplace! You can buy some of your favorite nobread approved groceries and snacks and take a little bit of Joan’s to go 🙂
