Filomena has been a staple in Georgetown for over thirty years. Their menu is stamped with a list of celebrities miles long and spans from Bill Clinton to U2’s lead singer, Bono. The first time I went to Filomena, I didn’t even know that they had gluten-free pasta! Ever since my discovery, Filomena has become one of my favorite restaurants in DC…
When you walk into the restaurant, you will see a glass window, behind which “Nonna” is making pasta. Italian street music plays in the background and the restaurant has a very cozy feel. The menu is filled with numerous traditional recipes, some of which are have a modern flair. Most importantly, however, many of the dish are, or can be made, nobread approved! There are numerous gluten-free meat and fish entrees and the majority of the pasta dishes can be prepared with gluten free pasta. I ordered the cavatelli al pesto with gluten-free pasta and was not disappointed! The pesto was fresh and the cream sauce and ricotta added a unique flair to the dish. Also, the buratta alla caprese appetizer was absolutely delicious. Not only was my meal fantastic, but dessert was, as well! I ordered the triple chocolate mousse cake. The cake consisted of layers of milk chocolate, white chocolate, and mocha mousse atop a flourless chocolate cake base. Although I was already full from dinner, I ate the entire slice!
I highly recommend Filomena! The staff takes pride in the dining experience, is friendly, and most importantly, is nobread knowledgeable! The traditional Italian vibe makes Filomena feel like a place where dinner is more than just a quick, rushed meal.
