If you take a look at Plan Check’s menu and think you can’t eat anything at the restaurant, you’re not alone! I’ve been gluten free for about 6 years now, and even I had the same reaction. Well, NOBREAD crowd, no need to fear… there are plenty of gluten free options! …
Plan Check is known for their hearty burgers, and although there isn’t any gluten free bread offered at the restaurant, all burgers are gluten free when you ask for nobread! I ordered the Chef’s Favorite Burger which comes with two strips of bacon, a sunny side up egg, and hot sauce… and it’s pretty awesome. On all burgers there is ketchup leather, which contains gluten, so in addition to asking for nobread, make sure you ask for noketchup. French fries are a necessary addition to any burger order, and I highly recommend the sweet potato waffle fries, but only if you can handle cross contamination!! The fries are crispy and delicious, but share the same fryer as the fried chicken, so if you are sensitive you will have to sit this out. Plan Check also offers salads for those of you looking for a healthy meal, and I’m a big fan of the spicy tuna salad with avocado, puffed rice, and yellow frisee. The sriracha dressing contains gluten, so I went with a little olive oil and lemon instead! Lastly I dabbled in the ‘pickled’ dishes. All of the pickles are gluten free except for the spicy cucumber with sriracha, and this is the perfect appetizer to share with your gluten free friends.
Plan Check might not be your spot if you’re in the mood to be ultra healthy, but there are plenty of NOBREAD approved options that make it a suitable restaurant for the NOBREAD crowd. I definitely want to come back and try another burger— they all look so good— and I’m going to need another order of those sweet potato fries, stat! Plan Check has locations in Downtown, Fairfax, and Sawtelle; I hear all are awesome and I definitely recommend checking this spot out.
