The Los Angeles food scene is teaming with new and trendy health-conscious restaurants; however, one veteran restaurant, Urth Caffe, has been around before the craze began. Specializing in organic coffees and teas, high-quality health conscious meals, and exquisite desserts, Urth is the “ol reliable” and the ultimate destination for all health foodies in search of a delicious meal…
Urth Caffe is casual and comfortable, and despite its simplicity, the cafe always serves tasty meals. With multiple locations throughout the LA area, Urth is accessible from just about every corner in the sprawling city. Best known for breakfast and lunch, the cafe is famous for their filling and flavorful salads. The Urth Salad is everyones go-to and one of the best salads in LA. This ‘famous salad’ is made with locally grown mixed greens, feta cheese, Roma tomatoes, hearts of palm, garbanzo beans, Kalamata olives (with pits), & pine nuts in a vinaigrette dressing. The salad is not fancy or fussy, but it’s done well, it’s satisfying, and it’s yummy. The Mediterranean Platter is also one of my favorites–it’s served with feta cheese, grape leaves, hummus, tabouli, roasted peppers, mixed olives, garnished with mint, grilled artichokes and pure olive oil. Just make sure to ask for no tabouli!! The platter combines strong Greek flavors together in one plate and leaves you feeling light. All salads come with a choice of bread, and I’m happy to report that Urth serves GF bread! Coffee drinkers should not skip the sip at Urth! The drinks are all fair-trade, organic and delicious, and you should definitely try the cappuccino and green tea boba. These drinks have a cult-like following!
As far as price, Urth isn’t the cheapest pit-stop, but they do have options for diners on a budget. You can make any of their salads half-sized or try any of the more moderately priced breakfast options. Urth’s cuisine isn’t fancy by any means, but the cafe has the ability to please, which just goes to show how far fresh can really go. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you run into a celebrity… big names like Justin Bieber are known to visit the hotspot.
