I mean, I think the picture above sums up everything I am about to say. The Cape Hotel in Cabo is magical… I don’t even know where to begin!
Let’s start with the elephant in the room. It’s 2020 and the year of Covid. Travel, never mind International travel, is pretty much non-existent. I don’t know how you all have been feeling, but July was tough for me. I’ve stayed pretty positive throughout the past 6 months, but there was something about July and the fact that our current predicament was still existing that really rocked me! I needed to get out of LA for a minute… I needed to feel normal. When my friends threw out the idea of going to Mexico, I was in.
I’ve never felt more safe, normal, clean, and calm than I did this week at the Cape. All hotel workers are wearing masks, and guests are asked to do so when walking around common areas. When you sign your bill at the front desk, the bill is placed under a blue light that acts against viruses (no idea if this is legit, but love the consideration). You have the option to have your room cleaned daily, every other day, or not at all, depending on your comfort with having staff in your room. The gym is AMAZING and SO CLEAN. It is cleaned professionally hourly, and only 10 people are allowed inside at a time (I was never in there with more than 5). Same with the spa- appointments are spaced out and couldn’t be more clean.
Now to the fun stuff. Let’s start with the food, shall we?
Breakfast is served at the restaurant downstairs on the ground level. When I travel, I kinda bring my own breakfast so I can have some sort of consistency in my diet (nuts/nut butter, protein bar). Also I don’t love having three massive meals a day, and I loveee a poolside lunch and nice dinner. Although I didn’t have breakfast, my friends loved it and said it had all the classics- eggs, avocado, fruit etc. LUNCH- I ate lunch at the pool every day. Mexican food is my favorite food to begin with because it is SOO gluten-friendly; most things are corn-based! The fish tacos are on the menu are battered, but they will make them grilled! These grilled fish tacos with avocado are amazing and SO FILLING. I also was obsessed with the black bass ceviche- it came on top of tostadas and was mixed with avocado, tomato, cucumber, lime, and they had a nice little spicy kick. I also recommend the shrimp tacos and guacamole. The waiters are totally in the loop on gluten-allergies and dietary restrictions, so if you see something and you want it gluten-free, they’ll make it happen!
My room:
Wow– room with a view gets taken to a whole new level here at The Cape. All rooms are ocean front which is just amazing, and the rooms each have an outdoor balcony with a small table and large swinging sofa. That’s where I’m writing from right now! The hotel is right on top of the ocean, so the sound of the waves will sooth you to sleep, or sooth you to write if you’re here to get a little work done, too. The room itself has a king bed, beautiful bathroom, and the cutest bathtub I’ve ever seen! I definitely put this to use a few of the nights!
Nightlife:
There is a restaurant/lounge on the top floor of The Cape. I learned on this trip that bars and restaurants in Cabo close at 10:30PM, except on Saturday night’s The Cape is open late (2 am I think), so it becomes THE SPOT in Cabo. Note, that also means Saturday Night I didn’t sleep too well… it was a bit loud, ha. But all other nights it was totally quiet and great! The rooftop menu is a very classic NY/LA rooftop menu- small bites, not the bestttt in terms of GF, but they are super accommodating and have taquitos etc that are gluten-free!
The Spa/Gym:
Honestly… this was one of the highlight’s of my trip. As I mentioned earlier, the gym and spa were incredibly clean and beautiful. Currently gyms are a no-go in LA… I can’t remember the last time I’ve been in one! So I was sooo excited about this. The fitness center offers gym classes like yoga and spin, and the gym itself has treadmills, ellipticals, weights, foam rollers, and more. Getting to go to a beautiful gym that overlooked the ocean was a dream. After each gym session I went to the spa! The spa has a whole menu of services, but I was all about the steam room, sauna, and pools! They have three to be exact: a cold plunge, medium temp, and hot tub! If you come to The Cape this is a must.
Overall:
The Cape was exactly what I needed to reset and refresh. I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience, and I will FOR SURE be staying here again in the future! Note: I got eaten alive when I went out to dinner a few of the nights- it’s humid AF so bring bug medicine. I saw after the fact that sitting next to the safe in my room was a bottle of bug spray. Oh well, next time! xx #nobread
