I officially made it to Newport Beach! It only took a year of me living in Los Angeles, but I made it and I’m in love. I’ve wanted to go to Newport for so long, and more specifically, I’ve wanted to go Babette’s. We have a Babette’s in East Hampton, and I absolutely love it there, so I just knew I would love the location in Newport Beach, too! Babette’s is incredibly gluten-friendly, and their cuisine, along with the vibe, adds to the charm of the restaurant…
To start, you have to order the gluten-free pancakes. Served with seasonal fruit and maple syrup, the pancakes are light and tasty. They are NOT dairy-free, so if you are dairy-free you will have to refrain. I love breakfast and brunch… at all times of day, so I ordered brunch for lunch! I went with the egg white omelette with spinach and avocado on top, with a side of sweet potato fries, smoked salmon, and gluten-free bread! Talk about a FILLING brunch! My friend opted for one of the many delicious, gluten-free salads! She ordered the Spinach Salad and topped it with avocado and a poached egg to make it more complete. When I asked to see a copy of Babette’s gluten-free offerings, I was so impressed that only FOUR items on the brunch/lunch menu contained gluten, and the gluten could easily be removed! The naan bread accompanying one dish, crisp wontons on one salad, crisp tofu on another, and whole grain bun are the only items on the menu containing gluten! I love seeing that!! The dinner menu is just as gluten-friendly, with Seared Wild Scallops, Roasted Jidori Chicken, and Vegetable Pad Thai calling my name!
Barbara, the owner of Babette’s, gave my friend and I a bag of homemade potato chips on our way out, and once we opened the bag, the chips didn’t stand a chance! Thank you, Babette’s for an excellent brunch, I will for sure be back soon!!
